APRIS Lab is a newly established research laboratory launched in August 2026 and led by Dr. Sankhabrata Chandra at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata, India.
At APRIS Lab, we investigate radiation-driven processes on astrophysical and planetary dust and ice surfaces through laboratory experiments. Our primary goal is to understand how electron and ion irradiation modifies these surfaces and drives physical and chemical processes, such as the sputtering of surface species. By recreating space-like environments in the laboratory, we aim to bridge fundamental molecular physics with key questions in astrophysics and planetary science. We investigate these radiation-induced changes using a number of experimental tools, where the irradiated samples are analyzed during controlled warming following electron or ion bombardment.
This quote embodies the vision of APRIS Lab. We believe that every new discovery begins with curiosity. By recreating the space environment in the laboratory, we investigate how radiation transforms planetary and astrophysical materials. Through this research, we seek to deepen our understanding of the Universe and inspire the next generation of space exploration.
